“Through light, we connect rooms and thereby create freedom and continuity. Everyone has a right to good light – whether it’s provided by nature, or in one’s own home. We stand for this culture of good light and we want to give people quality of life through good light. We were fascinated by the idea behind the UNBUILDING WALLS exhibition. Something amazing has emerged from the spot where a wall once stood, people are living together and are happy. "We are very proud to be partner of this important cultural event.”

Occhio is very proud to be the main sponsor of this year’s UNBUILDING WALLS exhibit in the German Pavilion of the 16th La Biennale di Venezia 2018 architectural exhibition. The exhibition is curated and designed by Wolfram Putz, Thomas Willemeit and Lars Krückeberg of Graft Architekten together with the Green politician Marianne Birthler.

UNBUILDING WALLS

Germany has been reunified for 28 years, which is precisely the number of years that the Berlin Wall divided Germany. In the German pavilion, GRAFT architects and the Green Party politician Marianne Birthler have used the time parallel in the context of the exhibition entitled UNBUILDING WALLS to examine the impact of separation and the process of healing as a dynamic spatial phenomenon. With regard to the concept of »Freespace«, which is the overarching topic for the 16th La Biennale di Venezia 2018 architectural exhibition, the focus was primarily on exceptional urban and architectural examples that deal with separation or coalescence. Occhio is main sponsor for the exhibition.
Occhio provided the right light for the opening party at the Giudecca rowing club: Guests were greeted by a Mito staging that showcased the entry’s vaulted brick ceiling. An ensemble of Sento lettura floor luminaires provided a pleasant atmosphere in the lounge.

La Biennale di Venezia

La Biennale di Venezia, one of the world's most important architectural exhibitions, is more than a cultural performance show of different nations. Since 1980, the event contributes to the contemporary discourse and international exchange.

The exhibition contributions – or country participation – in the pavilions in the Giardini of Venice are showcases of a country’s architectural characteristics as well as an important forum of international exchange attracting people from all over the world beyond the professional audience.
