Munich/Hamburg, June 2018: The spectacular concept of The Table, a restaurant located in Hamburg’s trendy Hafen City district, is as unique as it is inviting: The three-star chef Kevin Fehling welcomes his guests at a single curved table that enables socializing as easily as it does intimacy. Personal, culinary and aesthetic satisfaction – all of this is aimed at ensuring guests are comfortable – a challenge that the architectural firm Heyroth & Kürbitz freie Architekten BDA meets with an intelligent lighting system from Occhio.

Inspired by the »chef’s table« concept, guests sit around a table and have a direct view of the kitchen, the place where it all happens. The sophisticated form of the carefully custom-tailored table provides each guest with an optimal view of the kitchen and all those in the room – guests along with cooks and servers are all part of the show. Whether for a couple or a group, the long table consisting of dark cherry wood has a seemingly organic shape that allows a wide range of seating options and encourages guests to enjoy an intimate or a more social atmosphere, depending on their mood.

Kevin Fehling thinks outside the box and masterfully challenges the one or other convention found in the culinary world – for instance, through the elevated table and seating arrangement that allows guests to interact with the head chef and his team, literally at eye level.

For the interior design, concrete walls and six-meter high ceilings were left virtually untreated and therefore draw undivided attention to the essentials: the delicate art of one of Germany’s greatest cooks and the personal experience of the guest, whose well-being and enjoyment is the primary goal.

A sophisticated concept such as this requires not only light that offers an appealing design and is of the highest quality, it also must be flexible – three reasons why architects choose Occhio luminaires. Sento filo luminaires were selected to illuminate the long table; they provide a comfortable, intimate atmosphere and their »perfect color« LEDs offer an outstanding visual experience while dining. Thanks to the luminaire head’s flexibility, the beams of light can be adjusted according to the seating arrangement and enable a glare-free presentation of each individual course. The remaining space was designed with io sospeso suspended luminaires, which hang from the ceiling in various heights. The ceiling height of more than six meters required specially customized models for the gourmet temple. They are also equipped with »perfect color« LEDs and provide optimally adjusted light for cooks and guests alike.

Ultimately, this represents the prefect combination of superior quality in terms of cuisine, ambiance and lighting atmosphere.
